Organic: a way of life

Organic farming is a nature friendly way of producing food. The basic thought consists of a healthy and living earth. Farming in good balance with nature is very important to us. Consequently, we chose for organic. The aim of our company is to produce natural and healthy products such as milk, meat. The animals live here a good life! The balance between animal and nature results also in a better quality of meat and milk.

Full-fledged organic farming needs to suffice some conditions:

  • The guarantee of health
  • Care for the current and coming generations and their living environments
  • Respect for living ecosystems
  • A fair relation between each other and our environment

This means that the cows are to be fed with a hundred percent organic food. Also, we aren't allowed to use any artificial fertilisers or insecticides; the wellness of the animals is very important. These measurements result in a sustainable way of producing. Organic farming is in our opinion better for our animals and our products.

Since we began with organic farming, we persistently tried to come up with new ideas, through which we can farm (economic), organic justified. We aim for a self-sufficient, organic company, in which we try to minimize the input of products, through which we can realise a sort of cycle of life on the farm. The next step on our farm is to adapt the stables in such a way that the cows can longer breastfeed their new-born veal; to give the animals more living space, so that their natural behaviour can be expressed better.

Organic farming takes care of the improvement of the living soil with a placid growth of crops with higher levels of minerals and vitamins and more variation in species. This results in our opinion in a better taste of products. The animals are often outside and therefore have enough living space, which leads to a great wellness for the animals. Especially the resistance of the animals is higher and therefore they have a higher life expectancy.

But the new days of organic farming are actually quite recent. For many years, Dutch farmers saw productivity as the leading priorities of farming. The efficient usage of insecticides and artificial manure (inorganic fertilisers) resulted in a considerable increase of production. Unfortunately, this success had a seamy side as well. Due the fact that high production per hectare was the leading priority, the farmers loosed sight of the environment and animal wellness. The soil and the animals wearied out, because of the hastening of their growth. As a reaction to this, the organic farming showed up: a form of sustainable farming!

Organic products are identifiable in the retail by the EKO-quality mark. Products with this identification mark are one hundred percent organic.
